SVQs in the social services sector from January 2006 to December 2007

06 May 2009

This is the first in a series of annual reports on Scottish Vocational Qualifications provision in Scotland, to be produced regularly for the purposes of workforce planning.

The Scottish Social Services Council wants to know more about the workforce and is keen to have accurate information about the qualifications which employees are undertaking and achieving. This paper sets out information we have gathered, which will assist education and training providers, employers, employees and other partners involved in workforce development activities.

This report is an analysis of relevant Scottish Vocational Qualifications (SVQs) during the period Jan 2006 – Dec 2007. This data was provided by SQA and covers new registrations and new certificates issued. Data is provided on a quarterly basis during this period. To put this data into context, we compare it to figures published by Local Government Analysis and Research (LGAR) in its final quarterly report, although it should be noted that LGAR figures include training providers other than SQA; specifically, Council for Awards in Children’s Education (CACHE), City & Guilds (C&G), Edexcel and Oxford Cambridge and RSA examinations (OCR).
