Scottish Social Services Workforce Data
Register annual report 2024 to 2025
We’ve published our third Register snapshot report giving a unique insight into the social work, social care and children and young people workforce on the Register.
The report, which examines data from 1 April 2024 to 31 March 2025, shows there were 175,702 people on the SSSC Register in March 2025, a decrease of 909 or 0.5% on April 2024. The registered workforce represents 82.6% of the total social service workforce of 212,780 in Scotland.
The report covers the period of our Future Proofing Programme which reduced the number of Register parts from 23 to four, reducing the need for workers to hold multiple registrations for different roles and to re-apply to a different part of the Register if they moved jobs..
Information on differences between registration data and workforce data and their strengths and weaknesses can be found here: https://data.sssc.uk.com/what-we-do/registration-and-workforce-data
The SSSC also publishes quarterly data on the numbers of registrants by category and the numbers with a qualification condition here: https://data.sssc.uk.com/registration-data
The quarterly data are available from March 2019 onwards.
