These spreadsheets present headcount and WTE (whole time equivalent) data of all filled posts in local authority social work services where those employed do not work in a registered care service. This therefore covers staff working primarily in field social work services. The data published includes a breakdown of the numbers of different people and posts across the whole of Scotland as well as by individual local authorities.

Please note that the Western Isles council area is now referred to as Na h-Eileanan Siar in the dataset for 2015 and in the time series file for 2008-2015. The previously published datasets for 2008-2014 (available here) refer to the Western Isles council area as Eilean Siar, and these files will not be updated to reflect the change in the name used to refer to the council. Please see here for more information regarding this change.

This data is available in Microsoft Excel 97-2003 (.xls), Microsoft Excel 2007 (.xlsx) and OpenDocument Spreadsheet (.ods) formats, plus in non-proprietary Comma Separated Values (.csv) format. The provision of the data in these formats is intended to facilitate its analysis and re-use.
