Publication of the Social worker filled posts and vacancies six-monthly survey
We are pleased to announce that, after a short delay, the Social worker filled posts and vacancies six-monthly survey will be published on the morning of Friday 11th July at 09:30am.
Analysis of data at 6th December 2024.
This report presents data on the whole time equivalent (WTE) number of social workers and social work vacancies in local authority social work services in December 2024. It is the fourth of our half-yearly reports on practising social workers (that is, main grade social workers and senior social workers).
Delay to the publication date of the next Six Monthly Social Work Report
Unfortunately we have to announce a delay to the date of publication of our next official statistics report on the WTE and WTE vacancies for social workers within local authorities. This is due to unanticipated problems with the processing of the data. We will announce a new publication date later this week.

Publication of the 2023 Staff vacancies in care services report
The staff vacancies in care services 2023 report is jointly published by the Care Inspectorate and the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC). This latest report provides data on vacancies reported by care services as at 31 December 2023. It shows the number of registered care services with a vacancy, the number of actual vacancies that services say they had using whole time equivalent (WTE) data, and data on the reasons why services have reported that vacancies are hard to fill.
The report is available to download here.
Revision to the Social worker filled posts and vacancies six-monthly survey at June 2024
The Social worker filled posts and vacancies six-monthly survey June 2024 and its associated tables have been revised and reissued.
There was an error noted in the version of this report published on 08 November 2024 in Table 1. The total change % had failed to include imputed data from one authority from December 2023. No other tables or data were affected by this and the report has been corrected and republished.
The reissued report can be found here.
