SVQs in the Scottish Social Service Sector 2015/16

28 Apr 2017

This report is one of a series of annual reports on Scottish Vocational Qualifications provision in Scotland, produced regularly for the purposes of workforce planning since 2006.

The SSSC supports workforce planning in the social service sector by publishing information on the sector’s workforce. This includes data on those undertaking qualifications relevant to work in the sector. This report sets out information on the uptake and completion of SVQs which we hope will help education and training providers, employers, employees and other partners involved in workforce development activities.

We have made the following key changes to the format and content of this annual report:

a) The report is shaped by financial year as opposed to calendar year. This brings SVQ provision reporting into line with reporting on Modern Apprenticeships (MAs) in Scotland which make up a significant proportion of SVQ activity.

b) SVQ provision data is separated into the Adults and Children and Young People frameworks.

We intend to report SVQ provision in this way from now on.

The report presents a detailed analysis of the entries (registrations) and awards (certifications) in relevant SVQs for the Adults and Children and Young People frameworks. It is in two parts.

Part 1: 2015/16 (with changes from 2014/15):

-registrations and certifications by framework

-registrations and certifications by framework and level

-registrations by framework and qualification (2015/16 only)

-Modern Apprenticeships (MAs) as a proportion of SVQ registrations by framework

-MAs as a proportion of total SVQ certifications (both frameworks combined)

Part 2: 2012/13 to 2015/16:

-annual trends in registrations and certifications by framework and level

-quarterly trends in registrations by framework -trends in MAs as a proportion of SVQ registrations by framework

-trends in MAs as a proportion of total SVQ certifications (both frameworks combined)

The data used in this report is provided on a quarterly basis by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) and covers new registrations and new certifications issued.
